Welcome to the debut blog post for the debut episode of the CineSoul podcast! Our subject is Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s fantastic directorial debut (these debuts abound). I speak with Sara Matson about family dynamics, mother/daughter issues and more.
Lady Bird was a real pleasure to watch, with great humor and realistic characters whose interactions were so authentic. Seeing it and talking with Sara was a real treat. I hope you enjoy our conversation.
This episode was recorded before the 2018 Academy Award Nominations were announced. Lady Bird garnered a Best Picture nomination and several others: Great Gerwig for Directing, and for Writing (Original Screenplay), Saoirse Ronan for Actress in a Leading Role, and Laurie Metcalf for Actress in a Supporting Role. None of these nominations resulted in Oscars, but the film has been lavishly acclaimed by critics and the public alike, and has received a multitude of other award nominations and wins, including Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Ms. Ronan.
